  1. It’s true what Girl Davis said about not being able to draw the lines between being at work representing your group and the company, and being at home in your own personal life. I remember Sunny from SNSD saying on Roommate that she really didn’t like how everything she did on her own was a reflection on her group and her members.

I think April is right about Jonghyun’s grievance with SM. Maybe he didn’t out right state it, but it is implied. He was so passionate about music, so I feel like him stating that music is all he had shows there was some kind of threat to his music. Like Girl Davis said, he was thinking about his people being okay after he died, so maybe he didn’t want to cause problems for his members. Maybe I’m just looking for someone to blame. In the end it doesn’t matter for Jonghyun. But if the truth did come out someday, maybe the fans and family members and even people not related to these idols would demand true protections for them. I’d like to say something positive and hopeful now, but I guess I’m not there yet.

    1. One more thing regarding the threat to what Jonghyun loved most. His friend told Dispatch that Jonghyun said he was getting bumped down as he gets older. I feel like this relates to the conversation you guys had about Yang Hyun Suk saying idols should retire at 28. If all entertainment companies feel like that, maybe SM made him feel like they didn’t care about what he wanted. Given the ten year to life contacts the idols are made to sign as teenagers, by the time it’s up they’ve grown, they know their worth, and like you said they can no longer be exploited. Thus they focus more on the newbies. Then again, apparently Minho said this past summer that Shinee has the upper hand in the contract they renewed in 2015, so i don’t know. Jonghyun was once asked if he would do it all over again and he said only if he were with his same members. I think there’s something to be explored in that too.
