This week the Black Panther cast came to Seoul shining their Wakanda glory.
Now some might be wondering why they choose Seoul as one of their stops for the world premiere. Well the answer is simple. They recorded parts of the movie in Busan!!
The producer Ryan Coogler spoke on why he choose Busan as one of the places to shoot.
“….I remember our first time coming to Korea was for scouting those scenes, we were looking for a place that could be home for those action scenes that we needed, those intriguing scenes. We wanted a place with rich culture as well as an amazing look at nighttime so we were so happy to find it in Busan.”
In February of last year Variety.com reported “Marvel’s “Black Panther” will use South Korea’s port city, Busan as the backdrop for a huge chase scene. The city, known for hosting Asia’s biggest film festival, will see its landmarks including the Gwangalli beach, Gwangan Bridge, and the Jagalchi fish market near Nampodong, used in the movie.
“The shoot, which will involve some 150 cars and more than 700 people, is a car chase scene with the protagonist and the villain,” said local production service company Mr. Romance Film.”
The Korean Herald in March of last year also added,
“We’re very excited,” said Sun Kim, a co-owner of HQ.
She and other business owners think the film will be good exposure for Busan, and will also offer a good look at modern Korean life.
“Korea has a lot of history, so in some movies you see the Korean War or some other dark part. But with this movie they can show how Koreans live today.”
Black Panther and Korean culture together? How can it get any better?
